Hello and thank you for your interest in The BlackShark's Den.

Before posting your application, please take some time to read the Blackshark's Den philosophy in the "About BSD" menu item right below the website banner. If you think that BSD is what you are looking for, then please make sure to post your application here in the Recruiting Office.

List the following information:

  • your call sign
  • your age (must be over 18 years old)
  • your type of internet connection and speed
  • your timezone
  • your availability during the week and or weekends.
  • your approximate number of flight hours already spent on DCS
  • your knowledge level with the integrated DCS Mission Editor
  • your preferred chopper (you can love them all!)
  • your expectations w.r.t BSD.

General information

The training we are providing is tailored for the three different roles available with the DCS helicopters: Attack (AH), Utility (UH) and Observation (OH). As such, although we understand that no one want to be stuck into one role, we will ask you to choose your preferred one among those 3 so we can provide the most relevant training and make sure you will be comfortable in complex combat missions (we are not always flying hardcore complex missions so, depending on the mission designer, you will be allowed if you want to fly other types of helicopters).

Once we receive your application, we will set up an appointment for a casual test flight with you (usually a shout on Discord will get the attention of an instructor). You will need to connect on the BSD Discord voice channel and join a cooperative session with us.

Your first flight with BSD, you will be expected to know:

  • how to manually start up your machine
  • how to take off and land
  • your aircraft and its characteristics as well as its instruments
  • some notions on how to operate some of the weapons available

BSD trainers (IP or UT) can help out from there.

The observation period

Once you successfully pass your test flight, you will be granted the 'Trainee' rank with BSD. You will be able to fly missions with the other pilots as well as taking part in the training sessions. This will give us an opportunity to assess your motivation and skill level. This is also a good opportunity for you to see if this group is meeting your expectations.

There is no fee required for the moment to take part in the Black Shark Den flight group but we are running every year a support campaign where every member are free to give whatever amount they want, or not, so the costs of the hosting and servers are covered.

The BlackShark's Den spirit

Passion is generally what makes a group like this strong. Motivation is also key. We are looking for pilots who are willing to learn and make progress and also pilots who are willing to share their experience and information with others. To make sure we will be able to have a long life as a group, it is crucial that each member feels that he is receiving as much as he is giving. Flying with us regularly (at least once a month) is already a good starting point, but any other talent you have that can improve everyone's experience within the squad is very welcome: mission design, intruction, scripter, modder, skinner,... have a special place in BlackSharkDen.
